Umran Green School: Empowering Through Language and Culture
About Umran Green School
Umran Green School (UGS) is a non-profit, community-based Language Academy, operating from Istanbul, Turkey. Dedicated to bridging the gap between rural and urban education, UGS is deeply rooted in shared values and space. Specifically, it develops a sense of ‘value and space,’ meaning a caring and responsible person towards both humanity (‘umran‘) and the environment (‘green‘). The words ‘umran’ and ‘green’ symbolize social cohesion and environmental care, respectively. UGS offers high-quality, international-level language and cultural programs to marginalized and under-resourced learners, providing equal opportunity to every individual, embracing these shared values. Through initiatives like the UGS Language Scholarship and UGS Teaching Fellowship, we ensure equal access to comprehensive educational opportunities, regardless of financial circumstances. Our vibrant community comprises 200 students, 40 teachers, and 10 administrative members, collaborating to create a unique learning environment that emphasizes intercultural understanding and democratic values. Over the past three years, UGS has welcomed over 4,000 participants from more than 50 countries, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, China, North America, and Latin America. This diversity fosters personal growth and academic success through language proficiency and a heightened sense of social cohesion and care.
